Oswalt approves trade to Phillies (AP)
There's a new Roy in town -- and he's an ace, too. Three-time All-Star Roy Oswalt gave his OK to a trade from Houston to Philadelphia on Thursday, becoming the latest star pitcher to join the hard-charging Phillies. Orioles hire Showalter as manager (AP)
Buck Showalter was hired to manage the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday, his latest rebuilding project in a major league career full of them. Showalter's first game will be Tuesday night at Camden Yards against the Los Angeles Angels. Baltimore had the worst record in the majors at 31-70 going into Thursday night against Kansas City and is headed toward its 13th straight losing season.

Marlins' Sanchez 1-hits Giants in win (AP)
Anibal Sanchez pitched a one-hitter for his first shutout since a no-hitter in September 2006, and Jorge Cantu played his final game for Florida in the Marlins' 5-0 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Thursday. Sanchez (8-6) retired his first 13 batters and matched a career-high with eight strikeouts.

Padres acquire Tejada from Orioles (AP)
The NL West-leading San Diego Padres obtained infielder Miguel Tejada and cash from the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday in exchange for Double-A right-hander Wynn Pelzer. Tejada was scratched from the Orioles' lineup before their game Thursday night at Kansas City. The trade was announced a short time later.

Shoulder lands Strasburg on 15-day DL (AP)
Rookie right-hander Stephen Strasburg went on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with inflammation in his throwing shoulder, the latest indication of how careful the Washington Nationals are being with their prized pitcher. "They're taking every precaution with me, obviously," Strasburg said.

Price wins 14th, Rays sweep Tigers (AP)
David Price keeps on pitching like an All-Star. Price became the AL's first 14-game winner, Carlos Pena had four RBIs and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Detroit Tigers 4-2 Thursday to complete a four-game sweep. "He's one of the best pitchers, there's no question about it. Everybody knows that," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said.

Rangers acquire 3B Cantu from Marlins (AP)
The AL West-leading Texas Rangers added another bat for the stretch, getting third baseman Jorge Cantu from the Florida Marlins on Thursday for two minor league pitchers. Cantu got two hits, scored twice and made an error in the Marlins' 5-0 win at San Francisco. The trade was completed right after the game ended.

Jimenez goes 7, Rockies end 8-game skid (AP)
Ubaldo Jimenez rebounded from two rough starts to pitch seven effective innings and the Colorado Rockies snapped an eight-game skid with a 9-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday. Carlos Gonzalez and Brad Hawpe homered and Clint Barmes had two hits and three RBIs for the Rockies, who had dropped 11 of 13.

A-Rod files objection to Rangers auction (AP)
Alex Rodriguez filed an objection to aspects of next week's auction of the Texas Rangers, saying he and other former players may not get the millions owed them. Rodriguez is due $24.9 million in deferred compensation six years after he was traded to the New York Yankees, and he tops the list of the unsecured creditors in the Rangers' bankruptcy case.
